Happy Friday
What's everyone up to this weekend? Saturday is our annual family Christmas party. Unfortunately, I can't be too merry as I have to get up early for round two of clinicals at the hospital. I also have to try to squeeze in grocery shopping, Christmas shopping, and two online tests (only one week left...) I hope everyone has a fun weekend with not too much crazy holiday prepping, but maybe a little relaxing too.
Here's some links I'm digging this week:

Gift Guide: Dogs
Starting off the gift guide with gifts for dogs. Don't forget your favorite pooch this holiday season. I know I could never forget Olive's cute face

Since Olive started tearing the fuzz of her tennis balls, maybe this Planet Dog Orbee Tuff Artichoke will stand up to her.

Even when Olive rocked a pink polka dotted collar, people called her "he", so this collar flower helps with the girly factor. I love this so much, I made my own (though clearly not as chic). Also check out their bowties

The only chew that lasts for longer than a day, in fact after two months, ours is still going strong.
Stay tuned for more gift guides including babies, kids, him and her...

Minimalist Christmas
For the first time in a few years, Mike and I are able to spend Christmas with our families in Michigan. So, although I wanted to do some Christmas decorating, it made more sense to keep it clean and low key since we won't really be around to enjoy it. Although in the past we did a red and silver color scheme, we instead to chose to do just silver this year.

I used the wreath from the door and some extra white candles to make a simple and festive centerpiece for the coffee table

We had to do some furniture rearranging so the lamp couldn't stay on the end table. A 5$ poinsettia from Lowes, and a bowl full of ornaments, was all we needed to finish off our simple buffet.

I love the look of books wrapped in white paper (check out my inspiration here) so I grabbed a few cookbooks, wrapped them with inside out Christmas wrapping paper and put the bowl of vases on top.

I scattered some ornaments on our picture ledges for another simple festive touch. I particularly love this picture of my grandparents circa 1940s.

We decided to forgo the tree decorating, not because we're not festive, but because decorating and un-decorating a 10 foot tree takes a lot of time, plus I thought it looked pretty just lit up with white lights.

Lastly I filled two mini cake stands with ornaments to add some sparkle to the side table. (I had a big glass cake stand, but sadly I accidentally knocked it off the counter while I was frosting Mike's birthday cake a few months ago.)

So there you have it, our simple, clean, Christmas decorations. What decorations are you rocking? Anyone going the nontraditional route? I saw some beautiful chartreuse bulbs the other day that I thought would be gorgeous. Or is everyone sticking with the classics? Leave a comment and let me know! I'd love to hear from you...

Happy Friday

Well, this is it. My first clinical in the hospital. After 13 weeks of theory classes, I'm finally heading to the hospital to work with patients. I'm nervous. Not to mention, I have a math test this evening. These last few weeks of school are going to be really busy, with 7 tests, 4 clinicals and a patient care plan to be completed in the three weeks before the end of the semester. But it'll be alright, I'm still just taking it one week at a time until I get a month break from my nursing program. To give me a little reprieve this weekend, I'm grabbing Olive and heading up north a ways for Jingle Paws. Yeah, I'm that person who brings their dog to such events. Hey, it gets me away from homework and studying and Olive a break from pouting while I do said studying. Anyway, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Any fun plans? Any end of semester homework? Or are you planning on spending this weekend decorating for the holidays? Leave a comment and let me know...

December First
Did anyone else have an advent calendar growing up? We had a little felt one with a mouse that you moved from day to day. More than marking the days, however, I remember just sitting for hours playing with the mouse. I have this sneaking suspicion that December is going to fly by. Doesn't it always? There's something simple and lovely about marking each day, taking time to remember that December is more than just the month of Christmas, but the closing of the year. Ahh, I guess I'm feeling a bit sentimental.
Anyway, I've got some fun stuff planned this month including *Gift Guides* for all the loved ones in your life as well as fun holiday decor. Here's to December...
In honor of the classic advent calendar, I've compiled some modern advent calendars that I found around the web. My favorite is the tall white tower.
